is there a command for apt on mac?


Got error 'The operation couldn’t be completed. Unable to locate a Java Runtime that supports apt.

Please visit http://www.java.com for information on installing Java.' when running command 'sudo apt install tor'


java is installed so I don't know what the error is.

MacBook Air

Intel i7

MacOS Big Sur 11.7.10

apt is a package manager used on Debian-related Linux systems, and also on some other platforms.


No, there is not an apt command built into macOS.


You will need to add apt, or use a different package manager for installing the package.


Add-on installers that can likely install this installer;

  1. Homebrew: http://brew.sh
  2. MacPorts: http://macports.org


The package you are working with here is probably also not intended for installation on macOS, too.


If Java is installed, it’s either not been configured, or whatever is triggering for that apt command here is malfunctioning.
