24-hours clock mode setting not applicable

Hi everybody,

New 16“ MacBook Pro 11/2023, Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1:

Have set the clock to 24-hours mode (System Settings > General > Date & Time > 24-hour time). Slider can be moved, but my Mac still persistently stays in AM/PM mode.

When you close and open System Settings again, Date & Time slider is back in position AM/PM again, right as if I wouldn’t have changed it before.

(This time mode problem indirectly also affects the Apple Calendar programme, which unfortunately doesn’t offer an individual time mode setting of its own).

Does anyone know how to deal with this?

Hi Matti,

Thank you for your idea, this is much appreciated.

I have meanwhile (by pure chance in trial-and-error) found a solution without going „under the bonnet“ of Sonoma: Right beneath the slider „24-hour time“ there is also a slider „Show 24-hour time on Lock Screen“. If you activate the latter one, you can also activate „24-hour time“, and it suddenly works and keeps the chosen setting.

Yet, in fact this is just a fluke, devoid of any logic: I might understand that one has to activate „24-hour time“ first, ere one can choose „Show 24-hour time on Lock Screen“. But you should also be able to choose just „24-hour time“ for itself alone, without activating „Show 24-hour time on Lock Screen“ at all, and even less without having to activate „Show 24-hour time on Lock Screen“ first(!) of all.

But anyway: It works, problem solved.
