If it is an Apple application, there likely is an Edit menu : Speech menu item that allows you to start or stop speaking the content. It will use the default text-to-speech voice to read what is on the screen. That is the simplest to use.


Instead, if you want to write the selected text to an audio file, that is more involved but doable with more control over the voice, speaking rate, pitch, language, voice, and encoding (e.g. M4A, AIFF) format. I have an Apple Shortcut application that does this, but was written to accommodate Apple's Pages. That can be adapted.
