Random beeping with “Scanning your device” Media Bit

I’ve seen other people have this probably but seen no answers that relate to my situation

I’ll be playing Sudoku, my sound off

and then hear these beeps that I originally thought was a new ber alert or something

so I pulled open notification page and I saw a Media bit playing that was named “Scanning your device”

no Website, no ad was playing on my game, and No “Scam” Virus Messages

I dont think I’m being hacked, I just want to know where its coming from and how to stop it.

Usually I’m able to figure this stuff out, but the dots arent connecting

iPhone 13, iOS 17

any (most?) websites use ad networks, and those ad networks can sometimes be entirely problematic.

That’s when the reputable website hasn’t itself been compromised.

That isn’t scanning your device, it’s some website (or ad) spam that is pretending to scan via the video controls.

It’s not doing anything other than making noise and being an annoyance.

You might be able to suppress it using Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Auto-Play Video Previews > Off, or maybe with an ad blocker.

I encountered this issue (or at least a similar one) a few weeks ago. It showed the same audio player on the Lock Screen. This is simply a malicious ad, and provided you don’t open it and give it personal info, nothing will happen. If you really want to get rid of the ad, just force quit the app (after saving your work), and reopen.

this issue was reported in other threads on various seemingly reputable websites. Mine however happened when I was using an app called “Woodoku”. Attached is a sceeenshot of the widget.

whats strange is I was in the middle of a game, it didn’t launch an external website, it was listening to audible and about to start a MS teams meeting. When the app makes sounds, it does not launch a media player of some sort.
