I want to see 14 yo son’s location but I don’t want others to see it

When I have to select location sharing on my son’s phone in order for me to see his location, does this mean that anybody in his contacts can also see where he is? I want to see his location, but I don’t want anyone else to see his location. Is that possible? How do I know that I am the only one that can see it?

iPad, iPadOS 17

Location sharing is only available to the specific individual Apple IDs that the location is shared with. When you set it up it asks for the Apple ID that you want to share with. If your son’s Apple ID is part of your family sharing group you can track his phone with Find My.

Above reply is correct.

Some related Family Sharing info from Apple:

Some general information on safety and privacy:

Note that kids have agency. All parental controls and all related restrictions are trivial to work around on an allowance-scale budget, if the person is so inclined.
