Wifi constant disconnecting on Ipad?

I know this has been asked before, but nothing appears to have been answered for my particular problem.

So I have a 64Gb Wifi (not 3G) Ipad & up until about a week or so I've used it fine with only a minor problem with the loss of internet connection.

About 2 days ago I had a problem that although I was connected to my wifi router I could not get access to the internet. My new ipod touch, iphone 4, laptop & PS3 all use wifi & all worked perfectly fine. A few hours later my Ipad managed to connect to the internet.

Unfortunately now I keep getting disconnected. I'm talking every minute! I connect - open Safari - enter a web address & search - Disconnects. It asks to reconnect to my router & is unable to. I go to settings & connect, straight away it connects fine. I go back to web site load one page. Disconnects!!

So I checked here & downloaded the latest firmware for my Netgear DGN35010 router (v25), I updated ipad software & I have no security passcode on my router.

As you can imagine, this is getting annoying. I havent tried another router, but seeing as everything else appears to work on mine fine I got to think it's the Ipad problem.

Any ideas?

Does anyone from Apple tech support ever visit these forums to look into problems with their products?

First of all - have you got the latest iPad firmware update? Should be 3.2.2. If not, upgrade to it.

If that is OK - have you tried a full reboot? Hold down the power and home key. Then, when the 'slide to turn off' screen apears, keep holding the buttons down. After a while the screen will go black, followed by a full reboot.

Let me know if that works. If not there's a few other things to try.

cheers for getting back.

Yeah, it's got the 3.2.2 software & got updated by itunes this morning. Nothings changed. I just tried the hard reboot & it's still the same condition.

I can watch it disappear. I connected & went to check my mail. The rotating sun appears next to the full wifi indicator. Then the wifi icon vanishes & I get the cannot connect to server messages.

I am literally talking it will not hold it's connection for a minute!

cheers bud.

I gave Apple a call & it seems to have got fixed (well it's stayed connected for 10 minutes so far!)

I had to go to my network (the router I log on to) & hit the blue button on the right of it & choose forget this network.
Then reset network in general settings.
Turn power on router off & on.
Then reconnect my wifi on the ipad.

Like I said it's stayed on for at least 10 minutes now where it was dropping connection less than a minute.

Happy days, cos I dont live ANYwhere near an Apple store!!!!

I'm having the same problems. iPad disconnects after about a minute and continues to do so despite power cycle, wifi on/off, network reset. None of my other devices have wifi issues. It's finally been working for the last 10 minutes after I addeded my network by "other" and manually entered the name. If it happens again, going back to Apple.

Same problem here. For the first 2 months the wifi worked flawlessly on the ipad. This week the problem started every time the iPad goes to sleep, the wireless connection is lost. Going into the network connection and checking my wireless connection fixes the connection until the next time the iPad goes to sleep or is turned off. Each time, the network is not checked, and rechecking connects to the wireless.
MacBook has no problem at all.
Since this just started happening, I suspect an software upgrade has introduced the problem, however I have not seen evidence of an upgrade.
Has anyone called Apple and got an official response?

I have the base iPad 16gb Wi-Fi model and it was connecting to wifi fine. A few days ago I had to get a new modem/router. I bought a netgear dual band model (G and N) and used wireless "N" on my my two MacBooks and my iPad.

Two days ago I started getting the "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." error on the iPad along with the schizophrenic signal strength bars going from three, to one, to two, to disappearing totally, to whatever, and Safari not opening pages and sometimes crashing, and when it would connect running slower than molasses.

My laptops worked fine, seeing both G and N and working equally well regardless of which I chose.

I did all the jumping thru hoops I have read on this and various forums and that Apple suggested back in April with naming each band on the router differently but with same security settings, renewing lease on Safari, reseting iPad, resetting network settings, turning auto connect off, etc., etc., etc, none of it worked.

So I started to wonder . . . does the iPad even work with "N" . . . the Apple site says "yes", but I wondered . . . what happens if I have the iPad ignore "N" and connect only with "G".

Guess what . . . that fixed the problem.

I went into Settings > WiFi > and told it to "Forget this Network" for the "N" band and then selected the "G" band.

Problems gone.

If you're experiencing the connection problems I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you're trying to use wireless "N". Have it ignore that band and use "G".

I have been having a very similar problem. I will connect to my network, and it will shows that everything is fine, and then try and go onto safari, the app store, or some other internet based app, and it will not load! I am very frustrated and have tried all of the things that this discussion mentions, yet I am still having the problem. If I am unable to find what the problem is and fix it then I will take it to the apple store and ask them to check it out.
