Finder and iPhone storage mismatch causing long sync times

Can anyone help me understand this:

  1. Finder shows my iPhone storage as full (bottom bar chart shows full with 853GB of documents and data which is impossible - my phone only has storage of 256GB)
  2. Finder also shows I have 69.29GB free which is contrary to #1 above
  3. iPhone storage on my iPhone is not exact, but closely matches the 69Gb free in #2 above

My issue is with item #1 above - How do I fix Finder so that it actually shows the correct bar chart at the bottom?

The issue is that every time I plug my phone into the computer, the sync takes 45 minutes because it keeps updating my music library that has over 4000 songs (it adds back each song individually).

Here are the steps I've already tried without success:

  • Shut down and restarted both my Mac and iPhone
  • Deleted all playlists and songs from my iPhone and resynced via Finder

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a bug with how storage space is calculated. That's why you're seeing high discrepancy. Not sure what the root cause is but everywhere else you'll see the correct free space.

Your sync will always sync your entire library (well, the items that you elected to sync) every time you connect your device.
