How To Automat Recurring Sending of a Short Message?

I have to surveil the battery status of an emergency gadget. The status of this gadget can be read by sending inquiries via SMS. The gagdet responds by providing the respective parameters via SMS. So I send each third day by hand an SMS onto the gadget with the appropriate inquiry. How to automate the sending of such message?
