Almost finished Podcast episodes are being 'finished' by the app

I've noticed for the last few months that whenever I've gotten within a few minutes of finishing an Apple Podcasts episode, the next time I've gone into the Apple Podcasts app, that episode is marked as 'Played' and the next episode is lined up ready to play. So then I need to go back into all episodes and scroll right through and try to find the part I was up to.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Surely an 'auto-complete' function for this app should be optional.

I get some people might not like to listen to a 'fade out' soundtrack on episodes but not only are they welcome to skip these themselves, this seems to be kicking in with still sometimes 5 mins left on an episode.

It's also really frustrating to have to remember what I was up to and scroll right back through to find it again.
