Measuring VO2 Max

My VO2 Max as measured in the health app on my Apple watch 8 fell precipitously over a period of a couple of weeks. It dropped from the high 30's to low 20's and then high teen's and I was not sick or injured. I am over 70 so don't expect very high scores but that drop just seemed weird. Have others had similar experiences??
