The iPhone 5 cannot connect to 4G or 5G cellular networks. That means it is useless as a cellular phone almost everywhere in the U.S., and soon will be useless as a cellular phone even in the few remaining pockets that have some sort of 2G or 3G service. Other countries are also dropping 2G and 3G, so I wouldn't count on that iPhone being useful as a cellular phone in most parts of the world for too much longer.
I suppose you could use it as if it were an iPod touch. Even there, there are limits. The iPhone 5 cannot run any version of iOS higher than the latest release of iOS 10. So many current apps are incompatible with it, and even WiFi-only Web browsing may be difficult due to the age of iOS 10's version of Safari.
If your iPhone 5 is still in working condition, you could use it as an iPod music player, loading it up with music from your own CDs with the aid of a Mac or PC. That' probably the most practical use for it right now. And maybe you could get someone else who wanted to use it as a music player to pay you a small amount of money for it, so they can load their own music onto it.
If you can find a buyer, be sure to prepare the phone properly for resale, as outlined in

I doubt if you'll get much money. Just the satisfaction of knowing that the phone is still of some use to someone.

I wouldn't give you 5 penny's for it. But someone who doesn't know anything about iPhone may be willing to pay you for it. Then they'll be extremely disappointed when they learn it may not work as a phone and most modern apps won't run on it. Do you really want to do that to someone?
Apple will give you NOTHING for the phone in trade. All they will offer you is the option to recycle it.
Sure. It’s yours. you can do whatever you want with it. I wouldn’t expect to get much for it. It’s not even usable as a phone un much of the world now.
An iPhone 5 is essentially obsolete at this time. It is 12 years old now. It cannot run any new apps. You can keep it as a collector’s item but don’t expect much use out of it.
Deposit it with a responsible electronics recycler.
That’s probably the BEST use for your “5.”
It is only worth what someone would be willing to pay you for it. Personally, it has very little value to sell.
FYI, I suspect that if you ask yourself the question
"Why do I want to sell this iPhone 5 and replace it with a newer phone?"
that will also give you the answer to the question of
"Why is it likely that I will get little or nothing for it?"
Can I sell it?
ok but is iPhone 5 worth to sell it?
What do you mean “worth to sell it”?
It is “worth” whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
Ah, but many seem to want (if not outright expect) “Something for Nothing.”
