Upgrade MacBook Pro retina, early 2015, from macOS High Sierra to macOS Monterey

when I attempt the install, after it works for a minute, I receive an error, 'The recovery server could not be contacted'. I only have an option to click OK. When I do, it stops. This is a used MacBook Pro, but new to me. I don't know how to proceed. Thanks for helpful suggestions.

You can download the full installer from the Terminal.app

You can see whats available:

softwareupdate --list-full-installers

For your Monterey copy and paste:

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 12.7.4

when complete it will be sitting in your Applications folder, you can launch it from there like any other app.
