How Re-Train Ventura / Chrome to Automatically Open ICS & PDF files?

My client tells me that previously, on her Ventura MacBook Pro, when she clicked on a link to an ICS file, Chrome would automatically open the file (causing the Calendar app to open).

She wants this behavior to come back. So far most search results suggest clicking “CLEAR” on the “Open certain file types automatically after downloading” line in Chrome settings.

But if I do this, how do I get file types like PDF and ICS to resume opening automatically in Chrome?  (Those file types are already set to Open With Preview and Calendar, respectively, in MacOS / Finder.)

FYI in Safari Settings General, “Open ‘safe’ files after downloading” is already checked — but we’re talking about Chrome here.
