If you have a clone backup utility (Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!), you could use it to copy folder trees from one drive to another to another. I know that Carbon Copy Cloner has the ability to back up from and to individual folders, and I would assume that SuperDuper! does, also.
First, before you do anything, use Disk Utility to ERASE the new drive, to make certain it is a MacOS drive. default from the maker is usually Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) which is only writeable on a Mac using third-party Utilities.
Once you have done that. there is no need to have the drive-makers utilities installed. They will work hard (but more slowly) to create a MacOS volume inside a SparseBundle Disk Image file, inside the inherently NTFS drive.
Then try using Finder to drag and drop the top-level folders from one drive to the other. if it refuses, reduce the size and do multiple groups instead.
