M1 Max Macbook Pro Lagging

I have a 32GB M1 Max MacBook Pro

I use my Mac mainly for editing videos in iMovie and playing Football Manager.

Recently I’ve noticed it lagging when using iMovie after a short period of time. During FM, when I change the scale, either in game or in Mac settings, it runs fine, until I move the cursor even an millimetre and it drops back down to about 90% smoothness. It’s small but noticeable to someone who is on it as much as I am.

Whenever I would play FM after putting the Mac into sleep it would usually lag and have these strange squares quickly flash up intermittently, so I’d always restart and it would be fine, but neither restarting or updating the Mac has helped.

Does anyone have any ideas as this is really affecting my productivity and enjoyment.

Consider downloading and running this little "discovery" utility, Etrecheck. It changes NOTHING. Etrecheck was developed by senior contributor here, and uses system calls to collect often-needed information.

it contains little tests for speeds of devices, CPU utilization, memory usage, energy usage and a digest of recent problems, in one easy to use package. it does not even need to be Installed. Because less can be learned when your Mac is running great, best time to run is when your problems are actually occurring, if possible.

if you follow the directions faithfully, its report (pre-laundered of all personally-identifiable information) can be "Shared" to the system ClipBoard, then Pasted into an ‘Additional Text’ window in a reply on the forums.

There is advance on your tube...

...but unless it is provided by an authoritative source, it is unlikely to improve the speed or performance of your Mac.

Caches exist to speed up your Mac. They take up space in RAM, but MacOS can quickly purge them for other demands on RAM memory. Deleting them frees up RAM. That makes you feel good for a minute, but actually slows down your Mac, because it must refetch that cached data from the Internet.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
