When trying to update, Mac tells me my password is wrong, when it is definitely correct

The Macbook will not take my password when trying to update to Sonoma.

I even created a brand new admin account with the username and the password, and it still won’t authenticate

The password required to enable software update is the Login password you created when you originally set up your Mac.

It has NOTHING to do with your Apple-ID password. Your Apple-ID password can, in certain very limited situations be used as an emergency login if you have an Internet connection. but it can NOT be used for this.
