There is an iPad repair cost estimator on this Apple support page:

iPad Repair & Service - Apple Support

Generally, repairs are actually a replacement with a completely Apple-refurbished device of the identical specs with a new outer shell and battery. They can even restore engraving on models bought with that option. Essentially it is an exchange service.

I've used it and am 100% satisfied with the outcome.
