Can I delete ICS files without affecting my calendar?

I have numerous ics files in my download folder from downloaded appointments. Can these files be deleted without affecting my calendar information? I want to keep the appointments for historical purposes, but the download folder is cluttered with the old ics files that I would like to purge if they are just taking up space.
