This number is registered to your apple id but not associated with your iphone

Good morning. This is concerning iPhone 13 on 17.4.1. DH has changed cell phone provider, his cell phone number was ported to the new provider, he has been using his iphone for about a month with this new provider. Now he has a message that says “this number is registered to your apple id but is not associated with this iphone. You can keep using the number for iMessage and Facetime but it will expire in 4 days!”.

He has checked - this number appears in settings - iMessage and Facetime in Receive Messages to and reply from, and in start new conversations from.

He has turned both iMessage and Facetime off, waited and turned it back on. No Change.

He has turned both off and turned iphone off, turned everything back on. No Change.

Will this resolve itself either before or after the 4 day expiry or is there something else he should do?

Thank you for any help.

Just adding this info in case anyone else gets this message.

We went to the Apple store, and spoke with 2 people. One said this had happened to them when they changed cellphone providers, and on the day of the deadline, nothing happened and everything was back to normal.

The tech person checked all the settings, everything was proper. They also said just to wait for the deadline (which in our case is in 3 days) and everything should be ok, and that message will disappear. So we wait. 🤞🏻

You can go to Messages in your Settings click on it and sign in with your Apple ID and Password. A verification single use passcode should be sent to your iPhone allowing you to verify. Then hopefully when you look at settings>messages>Send & Receive you may see your correct phone number and email address. You can “check” them and a green check mark should appear.

Good morning JDW , DH was already signed in. So he signed out of iMessage and Facetime, shut down the phone, resigned in to iPhone, signed back into iMessage and Facetime and unfortunately the same message appears. I think it may be the cell phone provider that created the problem but I am not sure.

Any other ideas?

Otherwise, He will probably head over to our Apple store and see what solutions they can provide and then failing that contact our cellphone provider.
