Need comprehensive user guide for AirTag.

Apple's website has a “quick start” guide and a short “info” document for AirTags. But nothing explaining all the features and how to use or disable them. This worries me because I keep running across important info elsewhere that is not mentioned in Apple's documentation. For example, I just found out by chance online that an AirTag which has been separated from its paired iPhone for 3 days will make a noise. I'm about to take a 2-week trip overseas, and had planned to leave one of my 4 AirTags at home. (I bought a 4-pack but only need 3 this time). If that AirTag emits an alarm nonstop for 2 weeks it will drive my cat crazy. Probably annoy the pet sitter, too. So I have to figure out how to turn it off before I leave.

Point is, are there other non-obvious tidbits like that I should know about? Where can I find a user manual with all the details?

AFAIK, Apple has not released a "comprehensive" user guide for their AirTags. However, there are a number of third-party articles trying to "fill-n the gap."

Since you mentioned it, let's start with the number of reasons why an AirTag can make a sound. I believe the following articles should cover that:

... so the one sound you mention in your post, that is, when an AirTag is separated from the iPhone it was paired with, does happen, but Apple claims that time frame would be between 8 & 24 hrs. after separated.

You, or anyone else with an iPhone, can also make a request to the AirTag to make a sound. This is help you (or them) to locate it.

If you know that you will be away from an AirTag for an extended length of time, you basically have two choices:

Set your home location as one place you do not want to be notified, and/or
Remove the tag's battery.
