Retouch on iPhoto not working

I updated my system software about a month ago. It was a huge update. Now my iPhoto re-touch is not working.

I have a Mac from 2019 (intel chip) with plenty of storage 2TB. I have 1.5TB of storage available, .5TB used

On the advice, found on another thread, I upgraded to 14.5 Sonoma and used "safe mode" to re-launch my Mac. iPhoto immediately began to crash as I opened a photo. So I re-booted my Mac again. That resolved the crashing issue, but the re-touch still does not work on ANY photo - old or new.

It's not an issue of lag time, I waited for 60 seconds on a small speck, clicked on another speck and nothing happened.

Don't worry about how long it takes. It's not like I'm here all day waiting. The library location is not the issue.

As a test:

Hold down the option key and launch Photos. From the resulting dialogue create a new blank library. Add a couple of images to it and see if you can edit those in this new blank library.

BTW you can switch back to your existing library using the same 'option and launch' trick

I was able to do what you suggested. The retouch worked for about 50 clicks and stopped again. This photo was littered with lint and needs a lot of retouches, more than 50. However, I decided it was good enough, so tried to export the photo to my desktop and encountered another problem.

If you drag the photo to the desktop, it reverts to the original. If you try to export it, it gets hung at 0%.

There's a huge bug somewhere that needs to be repaired. The retouch should handle ALL lint, not just around 50.
