External mouse and monitor display

I bought a wireless mouse that requires a USB piece to be connected. I also use an extra display monitor with my MacBook. If I plug the USB piece into the monitor (that has a USB port), would I be able to drag that mouse onto my MacBook screen while screen sharing/mirroring?

If you plug the mouse's USB receiver into a hub port on the monitor, you will need to ensure that the monitor has an upstream USB link to the Mac.

If you are using a USB-C (DisplayPort) connection (USB-C to USB-C) or a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt connection, the cable that carries the video will often act as the upstream USB link, as well.

If you are connecting a cable to a DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, or HDMI port on a monitor, that cable will not carry USB data, and you will need to run a separate USB cable (see monitor manual) from the monitor to the Mac to hook up the monitor's hub ports.
