Standard navigation app different ipados and ios

I've been looking at navigation on iPad and iPhone. Several users at my workplace want's to have google maps as default navigation app. As far as i know, this is not possible. But here the other day I was testing with my iPad, and when I was navigating from a webpage in Safari/Edge it sends me to Google maps, as I hoped, and does not even open Apple maps when Google maps was uninstalled, then it just stood still on maps.google.com . But when using an iPhone, it sends me to Apple Maps and I don't find any way to change this. We do have our ipads and iphones enrolled in Intune companyportal if that changes something.

So my question is: Is the policy around standard navigation app different on ipadOS than iOS?

Are you using WiFi Only or WiFi+Cellular model of iPad?

Independent of any installed Apps, consider the functional differences between WiFi Only and WiFi+Cellular models of iPad...

Aside from the obvious Cellular functionality, only WiFi+Cellular models include GNSS/GPS location capabilities - which may impact any Apps or features that require accurate and consistent location data, such as Mapping.  WiFi Only models of iPad have no Cellular or GNSS/GPS functions at all.

Also be aware that if using tethering to share an iPhone's cellular connection with iPad, the iPhone does not share its GPS-derived location data with connected devices.

Thanks for the reply. We have WiFi + Cellular on all of our ipads. And navigation works great. I'm more interested in why I can have Goolge Maps as standard navigation app on my iPad, but not on my iPhone.

iPhone ex. Clicking a link to a place marked on google maps in Safari and/or Edge, sends me to Apple Maps for navigation

iPad ex. Clicking a link to a place marked on google maps in Safari and/or Edge, sends me to Google Maps for navigation

At our company and in our country, Google Maps is preffered
