Macbook Calendar Widget Won't Allow Toggle from Month to Month

The calendar widget only shows the current month, with no toggle to go back and forth from month to month. To see other months, you'd need to open the whole calendar app, which defeats the purpose of the widget: to give at-a-glance information on dates and days of the week without getting bogged down in the specific details or waiting for an entire app to load. This is especially frustrating when it's the last day of the month and you can't see the upcoming dates for the week because they happen to fall in a new month. This is such a basic calendar feature, I'm annoyed that it's not available and I need to install an extra widget to do advanced planning for schedules and trips.

The old dashboard feature from years ago on Mac allowed toggling between months on the calendar widget, so the technology did exist. The new widgets lack the functionality, unless there's something I'm missing.
