Auto-fill password problems...

I'm having an issue with Safari.

Sonoma 14.4.1

MacBook Pro M1

When I register for accounts, it auto-fills a password suggested, which is fine. However, of late, say the last week or so, it doesn't let me. It's really problematic in that it does it sometimes too when I go to change my password -- it's really just making a suggestion.
