iPhone stuck on "preparing update"

Hey So to keep this short, I was on a site reading manga specifically Mangabuddy and I thought I clicked the next chapter but I guess it was a pop up ad and it took me to a site called Gamedom. I immediately exited and cleared my history and website data but I'm still a little worried. Can anyone provide some reassurance or next steps to put my mind at ease?

Also I tried to update my Iphone to a newer version ( I have an Iphone Xr) But it was stuck on "preparing update" which also made me a bit nervous because my phone is compatible with this update, I have enough space (around 50 GB) and my internet is pretty good. If someone could also help me with that, that'd be great!

There is no need to worry about the website pop up as nothing can be downloaded onto your phone from a website.

The Preparing to Update issue has nothing to do with the pop up you had. It can take a long time to perform this step. The best thing to do is give it a couple of hours, you can continue to use your iPhone. If it is still stuck, then restart your phone and try again. There are other step to take, if needed, such as Resetting Network Settings and deleting the update and download it again, but usually those steps will not need to be performed.

Hey thank you so much for your reply! I restarted my phone and waited for a bit and it did update finally! I just wanted to ask for clarification on what you said though. "There is no need to worry about the website pop up as nothing can be downloaded onto your phone from a website." I know you can download things on websites as I have in the past on my iPhone but did you by chance mean that since I didn't purposely click on anything that said download that I'm fine? As I said earlier, I immediately exited out of the website before I could even see what it looked like so I didn't purposely download anything nor did I purposely type out any personal information, but I am still a little concerned that it may have downloaded something or I got malware or something of the sorts by simply redirecting me to the site. I checked my files app and saw that the most recent thing I downloaded was in fact something I had purposely downloaded so that calms my nerves slightly but if you could provide further clarification that would be wonderful.

Just a little more information to add. I'm not actually sure what I pressed was a pop up ad seeing as pop ups are blocked in settings. I'm not really tech savvy but as I mentioned I thought I clicked next chapter but there were many banner ads on the site and I may have clicked one of those but again I can't really recall as it happened so fast and I panicked. Not sure if that's useful info but I'd thought I'd share it just in case.
