Moving Protected Files to new computer

I transferred all of my files and documents to my new iMac. Many of these were password protected and/or shared between my two "Users" on my last Mac. I transferred all of my files by using an external hard drive, so I only bring over what I really want/need.

Although I am able to open (Read & Write) the files, when I go into "More Info" it states "Fetching" with while giving the circling icon. I just want to make sure the new files are safely secured onto the new iMac before doing a hard erase on my old computer. Thanks for any advice!

Are you accessing files stored on the external drive or you transferred all the files to the new Mac..?

If you are accessing files stored on the external drive, then allow Spotlight to index the external drive.

If you transferred all, then it sounds like either Spotlight has not finished or needs to be reindexed.

This is for files that I have moved onto my new iMac, via external hard drive.

When I click on the files and go to File / Get Info the "Names" are "Fetching", User(Me), Staff, Everyone

I am able to see the files when I use finder, and I am able to open/edit the file just like normal. The files were all protected on the last computer I pulled them from, so that is why I am slightly concerned with the "Fetching." I am holding on to my old computer until I am confident the files won't lock up. Spotlight seems to be for finder not locating the files per the "rebuild the spotlight index on your Mac" link

Thanks again!
