apple asked for a $1400+tax quote to repair my Mac book pro due to liquid damage. I was like this is a price to buy a new one. Should I pay for that or just buy a refurbished one which is $200 more without tax?

Does MacBook Pro M2 top case water damage repair fall under AppleCare+ ? I have a 13” MacBook Pro M2 (2022) with AppleCare+. The screen is water-damaged (Apple said this is accidental damage), my battery is under 80%, and one of the keyboard keys is missing. Both the Apple Store and an authorized Apple provider (iCenter at Central Phuket) are saying I need to pay over 15,000 THB because the missing key requires a full top case replacement — even though I’m already paying the ฿3,600 AppleCare+ accidental damage fee for the screen. My understanding is that if the top case (keyboard + battery) needs replacing, and it’s part of the repair caused by damage or wear, it should be included in the same AppleCare+ incident. Seems like an easy decision to me. Get the refurbished one, and AppleCare+ (which covers liquid damage... although the service fee is a bit high).

The best thing to do is not leave food or drink near the computer. My college computer lab was very strict about that, and wouldn't allow their lab to be used by anyone caught with it for 30 days.

Electronics doesn't mix well with water or sugars in water.

I have my Apple care + and it is not covered for water damage.
