I just landed in Japan and am trying to add a local transit card in my wallet on my iPhone 15 Pro. But when I tap the + button to add a card I get a message informing me to add cards using the add to wallet button function from apps, emails and websites. But that was never the way it used to work in the past. Did something change with iOS 17.5? You used to be able to simply add a card from within the wallet app previously…
Further update: finally figured out the issue. I had changed my region to Thailand in the settings when I moved to Phuket and somehow wasn’t allowing me to add cards on that regional setting. Changed back to Hong Kong and all works normally again… 🤷♂️

Also won’t let me add through my Apple Watch. Only gives me the option to add previous cards. Not new ones…
Tried adding through website wallet link as well as in-app link but same result (see screenshots) below.
Anyone else having the same issue? Something seems to be seriously wrong here…
Payment methods can be specific as to country or region settings when adding to Apple Wallet. This includes credit and debit cards.
Cards are the property of issuing business/bank and they approve each payment method. When an attempt to add to a Wallet is in the <wrong> country that can be an indication of potential fraud.
