Scrolling Apple iPad Books using the Mac book touch pad not working as expected

I use both my Mac book and iPad together while I open a PDF format book in the Books app. Then switch to the iPad screen using the touch pad, when trying to scroll from a highlighted text area (or from a drawn area from the Apple pencil) does not start scrolling. Similarly, if I could start scrolling and scroll ends on once again a highlighted area then scrolling cannot begin without moving the cursor to a non-formatted area.
