Mail opening blank new mail windows

Mail automatically opens piles of new Mail windows on my MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.5 OS. It will open maybe 20 over one hour. This was after loading 14.5 OS. How do I stop it from doing this? I am unable to even close these- it require forcing the mail to quit.

In the Mail File menu, hold the option key and click "close all."

Also, try booting into Safe Mode, then open Mail and look for unsent emails in the Drafts or Outbox folders, delete those and empty the Trash in Mail.

Also, empty the Trash in Mail, sometimes leftover emails in there can cause your issue.

Disconnect from the Internet.

With Mail open

Check in one of your folders for an email from some commercial emailer.

Remove the email and empty the Trash ( Bin ) in Mail
