What do I do with a second hand MacBook Pro I bought that has been reported as lost/stolen?

I you can not remove the conf profile then your hands are tied.

Add or remove configuration profiles in Apple Configurator

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Privacy and Security in the sidebar, then click Profiles on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Double-click a profile in the Profiles list to view information about it.

You will have to deal directly with the store where you bought it... return it, money back whatever.

There is no way you alone is going to de-provision the machine. You could try and contact the owner/admin/business to update/upgrade or de-provision the device, but this seem dubious at best if reported as stolen.

Lost or stolen you can report it to your local police if no recourse.

Your issue is not w/ Apple but is indeed with the entity who sold you the machine.

It is not illegal to buy a second-hand MacBook that the lawful owner parted with willingly.

Since you are asking about a scenario in which the Mac is "reported lost", that means you are thinking about the scenario in which the owner did not part with the Mac willingly. If you know that the Mac does not belong to you, and the owner does not provide enough information for you to contact them, then in that case, you might want to turn the computer over to the police.

You appear to be confused. You bought a stolen computer. The issue is between you and the seller. You do not legally own the computer. It belongs to someone else. It is not yours regardless how much you paid to whoever.

In most jurisdictions, it is possession of stolen property that is illegal. It is to your great benefit to humbly and apologetically hand over the device to law enforcement. They have the option of investigating the seller. Although "ignorance of the law" is not a defensible excuse, voluntary surrendering of the property often avoids action against you.
