How do I change me settings so when I hold it horizontally it will change

If your device is an iPhone or iPad you should be able to swipe down from the upper right toward lower left and Control Center should open. Depress the lock with the circle around it and if it’s black it should already be unlocked. If it’s red depress it to unlock.
