Is there a cheaper option for getting a broken macbook screen fixed?

You can visit a 3rd-Party store to see if they can get it repaired for you. However, it's not recommended because it will kill certain features of the screen. By chance, is your MacBook still under warranty? If so, what caused the screen to be damaged?
