What does an AirTag do?
Is it better to have an AirTag or not have an AirTag is my question I’ve never had one, but I think it might be important to have one. Anybody have an answer to the question.

The Apple AirTag was designed to help you locate a missing item, like your car keys. They are not designed for tracking, either people or pets.
... so, if you tend to misplace things, an AirTag may come in handy.
However, it's important to note that the AirTag relies on Bluetooth and the Apple "Find My Network," and not GPS. That is, the tag itself does NOT know its location. Instead, it will rely on an iPhone that is within Bluetooth range with an active Internet connection, to relay the tag's ID (along with the phone's GPS location) to the Apple servers. This is where you would see the tag's "location" with the Find My app on your iPhone.
