Time Machine and Setup Assistant

my main computer is a macbook pro running 10.5.8 and for which i use a lacie usb drive as a time machine for backups.

i've just bought a new iMac, which will presumably be on 10.6.4 when it arrives here.

can i use the time machine backup of my MBP with setup assistant to transfer all of my files, applications etc tot he new iMac ? is there any problem with using a MBP back up to transfer to iMac ?

thanks

i've done this now but having a few teething problems, which i remember also happened when i set up my MBA, though i can't remember how i resolved them.

the new iMac seems to "think" its my MBP (the computer whose backup was used to import data). for example - in the list of shared computers on the iMac, my MBA is now listed as MBP (2) and on the MBP, the iMac is listed as MBP.

do i need to fix some permissions somewhere ?

thanks.

going slightly off topic now, but i did ask this question in another thread weeks ago and got no replies, so i hope you might indulge me ...

i'm now connected over the network to the new iMac and i can screen share, but i can't browse through the iMac folders in the MBP finder the same way as i can with the old G4 OS 10.3.8 which is also on the network. the iMac drives don't mount the same way & this is also a problem btw the MBP and MBA. is there a way to fix this ?
