MacOS iOS security settings seem to block websites from recognizing previous privacy choices

MBP on Sonoma, iPhone, 17.4.1 iPad new last year. My devices apparently block websites from being able to recognize my device to maintain my security preferences. Is there a setting I can change that will maintain security of my private information?

In macOS Sonoma, iOS 17.4.1, and the latest iPadOS, privacy features might prevent websites from remembering your preferences. Here are some settings to adjust for maintaining security while allowing sites to recognise your choices.

Try this:

On macOS Sonoma (MacBook Pro):

  1. Disable Prevent Cross-Site Tracking:
    • Open Safari.
    • Go to Safari > Settings (or Preferences).
    • Click on the Privacy tab.
    • Uncheck Prevent cross-site tracking.
  1. Manage Cookies:
    • In the same Privacy tab, make sure Block all cookies is not checked.
    • Consider setting Cookies and website data to Allow from websites I visit.
  1. Website Data:
    • In the Privacy tab, click on Manage Website Data....
    • Here you can view and remove data for specific websites. Ensure that the websites you want to remember your preferences have data stored.

On iOS 17.4.1 and iPadOS:

  1. Disable Prevent Cross-Site Tracking:
    • Open Settings.
    • Scroll down and tap on Safari.
    • Turn off Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.
  1. Manage Cookies:
    • In Settings > Safari, ensure Block All Cookies is turned off.
    • Make sure Fraudulent Website Warning is on for added security without impacting cookie settings.
  1. Advanced Website Data:
    • Go to Settings > Safari.
    • Scroll down and tap on Advanced.
    • Tap on Website Data to see and manage stored data for specific websites.
