Can‘t create shared photos library

After clicking the button to send the invitation via iMessage there appears a loading circle. It progresses (while significantly slowing down) to around 50% and gets stuck. Afterwards a popup appears which states that the creation of the shared library has failed and to retry it again later.

Unfortunately this error persists on my iPad and iMac and doesn’t change with using other options during the setup process for the shared library. Restarting my devices doesn't change anything

iPadOS Version is 17.5 (also tried with 17.4) and I have around 5000 photos in my library and got the 200GB iCloud+ plan. Maybe someone in here knows how to fix this problem.

A little follow up: Creating the shared library worked after disabled enhanced data protection. After the shared library was created I enabled it again and everything seems to work as intended.

Apart from this issue, it is very annoying that the shared library doesn't organize the photos in albums. I hope this will get added in a future version of photos.

When I set up my Shared iCloud Photos Library I had a similar problem, when I invited participants before the library had been set up. It helped to set up the library first, before inviting anyone. I first created my shared library, moved my best photos to the shared library, then invited someone to share the library.

It is not possible to invite people, that are already participating in another shared library.

Thank you for your reply, but I still receive the same error. Even without adding any photos or people to my shared library. I am just unable to create it and since I don‘t even get a specific error message I don‘t really know whats wrong

That is an interesting observation with respect to the advanced data protection. Several users reported problems with a Photos Library on an encrypted volume.

The shared library can indeed only share the media but not the structure of the library.

I am currently using it to share selected photos and videos between my own two Apple IDs. To share the structure I am using keywords. each photo in an album has the album name as a keyword, so I can reconstruct the albums easily as smart albums.
