iPhone Fitness app step to distance variance

Hello, I have been using the Fitness app on my iPhone to track my steps. I have noticed lately there are anomalies in the step to distance calculation. Below is a recent example. On Sunday I walked 1554 more steps than on Friday but according to the Fitness app I walked 1.92 km further on Friday. Why would this be happening?

Outdoors your phone uses GPS to measure distance, it doesn’t calculate it from stride length. So the distance should be the more accurate measurement.

Step counting is less accurate, as it is a function of where you carry the phone and how rough the surface is you are walking over. And if you are wearing an Apple watch it is the step counter, and it can vary based on how much you swing your arms.
