Command-backtick (⌘ + `) to toggle between open application windows stops working after activating app switcher
I'm experiencing an issue where the command-backtick (⌘ + `) shortcut, used to toggle between open windows of the same application, stops working after using the app switcher (⌘ + Tab). Normally, the command-backtick shortcut allows me to cycle through multiple windows within a single application efficiently. However, if I activate the app switcher but move focus to the original (same) application I had open (either by using Shift + ⌘ + Tab to cycle backwards, or cycling all the way forward to loop back to beginning) the command-backtick functionality becomes unresponsive. Even clicking in the application does not restore it. Only when I use Swipe Up with Three Fingers gesture to activate Mission Control does the backtick functionality return. This disrupts my workflow as I rely heavily on these shortcuts for multitasking and managing multiple windows within applications.
In summary, to reproduce:
- Open Multiple Windows: Start by opening multiple windows within the same application (e.g., two or more Finder windows or two Chrome or Safari windows).
- Test Command-Backtick Shortcut: Verify that the command-backtick (⌘ + `) shortcut allows you to cycle through the open windows of the current application.
- Activate App Switcher: Press command-tab (⌘ + Tab) to activate the app switcher and view your open applications.
- Return to Original Application:
- Use Shift + ⌘ + Tab to cycle backwards and return to the original application, or
- Continue cycling forward using ⌘ + Tab until you loop back to the original application.
- Check Command-Backtick Functionality: Attempt to use the command-backtick (⌘ + `) shortcut to cycle through the open windows of the original application. Note that the shortcut is now unresponsive.
- Attempt to Restore Functionality: Click within the application to see if this restores the command-backtick functionality. Observe that this action does not resolve the issue.
- Use Mission Control: Swipe up with three fingers to activate Mission Control. Then, select the application window.
- Verify Resolution: Check if the command-backtick (⌘ + `) shortcut is now functional again.
