iMessage app is not loading on my MacBook Pro

iMessage won't allow me to type/send a message on my laptop. I have always been able to text from my laptop as well as my iPhone. They were connected. Now iMessage is just spinning whenever I open it on my laptop. How can I get it to stop spinning so I can use it?
