Restarted iPad, updated with the latest IOS, nothing works. Another iPad works fine with the keyboard, however this one (iPad Pro 11in 2nd gen) works with this smart folio keyboard only if I type very slowly. Otherwise lags, and “swallows” letters…

I’m answering myself as finally, by chance - I’ve discovered that there were “slow keys” turned on in “settings/accessibility/keyboards/slow keys
there was a delay activated there…
for anyone who finds the same trouble and goes through all the fuss with updates, searching the net, etc… this could be a very quick fix.
