Apple Notes "A link couldn’t be created for you to share."

Hi guys

I am trying to add people to collaborate on my notes, I recived a notification from the Notes,

Couldn't add people

A link couldn’t be created for you to share.

Any information about the same problem?

I'm trying to share with people I've been able to in the past.

Thanks

Hi 6x6,

I can confirm, that when ADP is NOT enabled, icloud.com and sharing Notes works.

This being said; turning ADP off defeats the purpose of this setup.

According to Apple's documentation, this is a supported use case.

iCloud data security overview

"[...] Advanced Data Protection is designed to maintain end-to-end encryption for shared content as long as all participants have Advanced Data Protection enabled. This level of protection is supported in most iCloud sharing features, including iCloud Shared Photo Library, iCloud Drive shared folders, and shared Notes. [...]"

Hi Zeromax2507, I, and further friends all, have the same issue:

  • Depending if the sharing of the "Note" is done directly via iMessage or via link-generation, the error is different.

  • This issue seems to depend on another upstream issue:
    • "Notes" cannot be accessed via iCloud.com, even after confirming and granting the access request.

According to 'Apple Support' (as of 23-JUN-2024) those are known issues.

No time line was shared on the estimated resolution to be available.

@6x6

FYI: In my specific case:

  • There's plenty of space on iCloud
  • Most up to date iOS version is installed - 17.5.1
  • Both 'sharing parties' have ADP 'Advanced Data Protection' activated.

Hey Zeromax2507, make sure you have plenty of free space on iCloud. The sharing functionality is relayed through iCloud. Otherwise, restart your device. If all fails, disconnect your Apple ID, restart the device and reconnect your Apple ID.
