Extract text from image not working in latest Sonoma (14.5)

Hello everyone,

I did some testing and the "Take Screenshot" action in Shortcuts is broken in macOS 14.5.

Other users have the same issue: MacOS Sonoma 14.5 update seems to break Take Screenshot action. Here is the solution proposed in that same discussion: https://github.com/e-kotov/macos-shortcuts.

In Setting type Region in the search bar. Look down until you see Live Text. If it isn't checked off, check it.

It seems that the issue with the action "Take Interactive Screenshot" has been fixed in macOS Sonoma 14.6. Please update your Mac and test.

See the linked thread below. It has a solution to the copy text from image using alternate shortcut steps. I tried the solution and it worked for me. See the end of the thread.

You do not need a " in shortcuts app " to extract; it is dependent on the feature working.

I manually tried the select and copy from the Preview.app— As far as I can see it is not working. Full stop.

I have submitted the issue here; Feedback - Automator - Apple. Automator was the closest app I could find. Hopefully if we all send in reports, they'll be able to fix it.

This is one thing I can't work without. I do lots of Screenshot to Text and get it to clipboard. None of the shortcuts are now working. I tried recreating it but its something with OS update Macos Sonoma 14.5

Thanks for that Matt. I’m having the same issue for the past week. Did you get any update on your feedback?

Same problem here. My shortcuts stopped working too. One to create a clipboard and another to speak text. Both more convenient than using Preview for my tasks.

Hope we get an answer soon.
