went to add an attachment to a mail outgoing msg.
Finder pops up and Freezes , yet i can still look at different messages..
Frozen state will not allow the FINDER to be Cancelled or manipulated in any way.

If Finder freezes up, open Force Quit from the apple menu, or press command-option-esc, choose Finder, and click on Relaunch. If that doesn't resolve things, you could restart the computer. You might have to start over with your message.

the file in question loads fine when the mail app doesn't choke.
Local file is only 4.2 megs - it IS however on an external SSD.
Knowing there are many issues with external drives and Sonoma i wonder if this is another great 'feature'
this is not a constant.
To elaborate:
The Mail APP does not freeze - it is the Add Attachment scenario that freezes.
i can move around in mail but not add or cancel the request to add an attachment until the app chooses to allow it to happen.
Finder doesn't even get to the point of being able to accept a mouse click to select anything...
It stalls.
I have had to force quit on occasion..
Current apps running were Open Office and Chrome.
Plenty of un-used RAM so thats not an issue..
Never saw this with Monterey, only Sonoma..
THis is not a constant, yet it is an intermittent recurrance.
I wondered if perhaps the size of a file made a difference, or if it was coming from an online source (like an iCloud or DropBox folder), but, using the Mail app on my computer, I was able to attach and send a 100 MB file from iCloud and it attached right away. Though perhaps being between two applications in iCloud somehow made it easier. Hopefully someone with experience of this issue will take a look at your question.
