How do I prevent "hold for authentication" for network users on printers shared from my mac?

macos 14.4.1 on macbook m2.

i have a hp m12w connected via usb. It is shared with the following details:

EVERY network print job from any other mac on the network results in a "hold for authentication".

  1. The printer itself does not have a password feature. It's just a dumb printer.
  2. The 'everyone can print' is enabled.
  3. The printer will work from the mac it is shared FROM just fine without asking for authenitcation.
  4. The printer has wifi disabled on it. It is only accessible via USB.

I want it so that anyone who is able to connect to the network is also able therefore to print to it.
