ABM Access Blocked due to "unauthorised use". What are you ABM use-cases

Hi All,

Our business' accounts on ABM have been blocked. For context, we are a subscription service for electronics. Apple devices included. Customers essentially rent our devices. All devices are owned by our business. We are also based in a country with a high risk of theft, so device management is essential to ensure our devices are not stolen by our customers.

We also use very minimal device management features. We don't collect data or block features. We only lock the device on non-payment and unlock when the account is paid.

We have been directed to unenroll all devices from ABM and to contact our customers (thousands) and get them to factory reset their devices to remove the Supervision Flag (the message at the top in Settings on a mananged iPhone).

I understand that our business model might be against Apple's ABM TOS. But can they direct us to not use MDM/contact our customers etc?

Also, what are your guys' non-business/non-school use-cases for ABM and MDM? Is this a lost cause? Do we move on and instead focus on marketing non-Apple devices? Can Apple really force us to not manage Apple devices? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Yes. They absolutely can. The TOS area legally binding agreement. you violated the agreement.

Well, you violated the terms of service. MDM is not for consumer devices, even if you're a business that leases them to consumers. They can absolutely direct you to not use their products in a manner that is against the terms of service.

There isn't a non-business/non-school use-case for ABM/ASM. It's literally in their name. Apple BUSINESS/SCHOOL Manager.

No one else here is running something unethical.
