There is text that I didn’t write in the “Bypass proxy settings for these hosts & domains” box. It says *.local,169.254/16
This is in WiFi Settings -> Details -> Proxies
Can anyone explain this? Does anyone have any experience with proxies and can help me understand what this text does?

They are default settings. You should not normally need to go through a proxy on your local LAN and 169.154/16 are self assigned IP addresses.
What problem are you having that made you look in the proxy settings.
I was having issues after installing Cisco Packet Tracer application. Safari does not recognise CPT although it should through Cisco NetAcademy webapp. This made me look through advanced wifi settings trying to see if anything is out of order. The “local” text does not look like it has much to do with it. Thanks for your reply
