The hazard in trying to get the screen lower is severe overheating of the iMac. All recent iMacs take in cooling air through vents in the bottom edge of the display. New 24-inch models appear to exhaust hot air through the same vent area.

The ~3-inch (75mm) design clearance between the bottom edge of the display and any work-surface MUST be respected or your risk frying the innards of your iMac.

Several years ago a user here reported unusually high temperatures and thermal shutdowns in his iMac. The cause became clear when he posted a picture of his workstation, which I saved:

+1 the best way is to replace the desk. You may want to investigate standing desks that allow you to adjust the height of the desk (and the computer) to your liking. They are not terribly expensive however some have some nice features which will of course change pricing over just raising and lowering. The added features I have seen are adding items like an integrated Dock to increase the amount of available ports which is something you may find attractive.

The best way to search is to use Google to search for desks, Amazon or visit your local office supply store to see what they offer.

Another option is if the computer is relatively old is to replace it with a VESA mounted iMac. Apple offers these on the on-line store, here is the link:

I bought a standing desk during COVID not only so I could use it standing but also so I could raise it to an appropriate height during Zoom calls. It's also nice to be able to lower it as I like a desk height lower than many people do.

It was a great investment.
