I am unable to manage my bookmarks in Safari due to "syncing"

Attempts to edit bookmarks blocked. Msg "Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit bookmarks once syncing has completed."... It never completes. I have had this new machine just 8 days. Before swapping, I backed up bookmarks to PC then deleted them on past ipad pro. After I reloaded from Icloud, I checked and found no bookmarks. I was starting clean. IOS 17.5.1

So ??? Your help will be appreciated.

If your iPad is not performing as expected, try a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

If you deleted them from the old iPad and that iPad was still using iCloud to store backups then those would have been deleted from iCloud. This would mean that the only way you can get them is by using the backup from the PC (and if it’s telling you it’s syncing it would seem like you have sync turned on the PC…you would need to allow the PC to be on and allow the sync to complete. If it allows for WiFi sync between the devices you can do that. Otherwise you would need to connect the iPad to the PC). At least this is what I get from the way you describe everything.

Please understand me...

At this point in time...

I couldn't care less about syncing...

All I want is to be able to to Safari/Bookmarks/edit and be allowed to make changes in that folder.

Once I get rid of that insidious popup and am sure that I can add bookmarks, I will be thrilled.

Thereafter, I will be sort of happy to re-engage sync.

Thanks to all who have viewed this.
